Dan Rublein shooting from the bluelineDan Rublein - Head Instructor

Born in Marquette Michigan , at age 3 he was in his first pair of skates walking around the house.  Dan played house and travel in the Marquette Junior Hockey Association for the next 12 years.

He moved down to Kentwood with his family at age 15, Dan played 3 years of varsity hockey for East Kentwood high school team and was the leading scoring defenseman in all 3.  In his Junior year East Kentwood won the class A state championship.  In his senior year he was honored as an All-State defenseman, selected by the Advanced to the first team All-Area , OK Rainbow All-Conference honorable mention, and was selected to Team Michigan select team to play in the Chicago Showcase tournament.

After graduating Dan pursed hockey at the Junior A level playing for the Saginaw Jr Gears of the NAHL(North American Hockey League).  After 1 ½ years in Saginaw Dan headed west and signed with the Bellingham, WA Icehawks of the British Columbia Hockey League(BCHL) for the remainder of the season.

The following year he attended Ferris State University and played on the club team serving as the Alternate Capitan as they went on to win the ACHA division II national championship.  Dan spent one more year at Ferris before moving on to short professional career playing for Mobile , AL (ECHL), Waco , TX (WPHL), and finally Memphis , TN (CHL).

After his playing career was over Dan turned to coaching as the assistant coach for GR Catholic Central varsity team .  He served as the assistant coach for 2 years, running the defensive end of the bench and working with the goalies, he also spent a summer as an instructor for the Turcotte Stick Handling School, and helped out with the inaugural Hockeysmith Instructional league for 2 sessions.  He took some time off coaching to finish school and dedicate more time to his new wife Stacie whom he married in 1999 and together they have 4 boys.  He has the USA hockey level 4 coaching card and is currently the Head Coach for the Michigan National Peewee A(03') team. 

 

Mike McConnohie

Mike McConnohie - Assistant Instructor

Mike started playing "organized" hockey @ the age of 12 with the inception of the newly formed GRAHA organazation in its early years. For the following 3 years he played on the house teams.During high school, Mike played on West Michigan Travel teams made up of players from area high schools who did not have a hockey program.  While in the travel program, particpated in 2 state tournaments along with many other tournaments in other states and cities.  While working at WIFC, He helps coaches of various age groups with many aspects of the game.

Mike Knuble - Washington Capitals

Mike Knuble -   Mike has played for East Kentwood High School and the University of Michigan , he has been playing professional hockey since 1994 and is a current member of the Washington Capitals.  He has also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, and Detroit Red Wings where he was part of 2 Stanley Cup winning teams.  In 2006 Mike was selected to represent USA as a member of Hockey team for the Torino Olympics.

We try to get Mike out at least once a year, but due to his schedule this will mostly likely be the summer session.

Steve Knuble

 

 

 

 

 

Steve Knuble - Currently living in Huntsville, AL with his wife Jaci and their 2 girls, Steve and Jaci will visit us once a year when they make the trip up North to visit family.  Before moving to Huntsville Steve ran a successful Adult Instructional school on the east side of the state which he built up and ran for 10+ years while also coaching the Ice Dogs AAA team and Saline high school.  In High school Steve played for East Kentwood with Dan and Craig, after graduation Steve attended MSU and played on their club team.  He didn't purse hockey as a career after school but continued playing mens/rec league and is still known by some as the greatest mens league player ever.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kenzie Homer - A Belmont resident, Kenzie will come out and a few times a year to help us out.  Kenzie played 4 years college hockey at Ferris State University amasing 214 penalty minutes and 59pts on 39 goals and 20 assists.  After college he played professionally for Arkansas and Peoria of the ECHL and New Haven and Rockford of the UHL.  Kenzie is married and has 2 kids, he has coached both of them in Walker's cross ice program and will be the head coach of the HAWK Mite team his son plays for next year.
