FAQ
Q: Is full equipment required?
A: Yes, full equipment is required. If you'd like some help answering equipment questions The Walker Ice and Fitness Pro Shop is a great resource with a large selection of new equipment.
Q: I am a total beginner, is this clinic right for me?
A: Yes, this clinic is geared for the beginner to intermediate players. What I have found best is, at a minimum, if you can get up and down the ice in a timely fashion you'll do fine. You definitely don't want your first ever skating experience to be in this clinic though, so try to get to at a few open skates in order to get comfortable on the ice.
Q: I have been playing in leagues for awhile already, will this class really help me?
A: Stats from the NHL show that in a typical game a player will only have the puck for an average of 1 minute, now there aren't any stats like that for mens league but I would assume it's not much more. During our sessions you will handle the puck close to 30 minutes or more in most classes. Along with puck possesion we will also cover team concepts such as positioning, breakout and neutral ice re-group. We will also cover individual concepts like what to do as a forward or a defenseman in a one on one situation. Many of the things that you just don't learn by stepping on the ice and playing.
Q: I play in a league and my entire team was interested in signing up, can we stay on the same team?
A: Arrangements can be made for entire teams to sign up and remain together, but it will make a difference as to the level in which you played. We pride ourselves on putting together evenly matched teams and want to make sure all teams are balanced.
Q: Do I have to wear a facemask?
A: Facemasks are not required, but recommended. I personally recommend at least a half-shield.
Q: How do I register?
A: You can print out the registration form off the website, you can pick up a brochure at Walker Ice and Fitness, email or call.
